Frequently asked questions
What is a SIP?
A systematic investment plan invests a fixed amount in a mutual fund every month, which averages your purchase cost over time.
Are SIP returns guaranteed?
No. Mutual fund returns depend on markets. Use a conservative rate for planning.
What is a step-up SIP?
A SIP that increases by a fixed percentage every year, for example 10%, which can greatly increase the final value.
Is SIP better than a lump sum?
A lump sum can earn more if markets rise straight away, while a SIP reduces timing risk and suits monthly salaries. Compare a lump sum with the Compound Interest Calculator.
How are SIP returns taxed?
In India, equity fund gains held over a year are taxed as long-term capital gains above the yearly exemption. Check current rules before you redeem.
